NCBA member and Public Lands Council (PLC) Chairman Mike Byrne of Tulelake, California, testified Wednesday before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health, on issues affecting grazing on public lands. Byrne told committee members that grazing is a win-win situation for both ranchers and the American public.

Cut #1    :31  Outcue: "...embodiments of true environmentalism."

Byrne said that while ranchers support the intent of the Endangered Species Act, the law is badly in need of reform.

Cut #2    :15  Outcue: "...land uses, including grazing."

Litigation has simply rendered the ESA unworkable and ineffective, at great cost to the public.

Cut #3    :17 Outcue: "...has been staggering.”

Byrne said cattlemen support common sense ESA reform that will actually preserve endangered species, rather than create paperwork and red tape.

Cut #4    :15 Outcue: "...based on sound science.”
