Resumption of trade with South Korea benefits U.S. cattlemen, Korean consumers

Suggested Lead:

After a three-week suspension, U.S. beef is again for sale in South Korea – one of America’s largest export markets for beef. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association CEO Terry Stokes says U.S. beef sales have gained momentum in Korea since the market re-opened earlier this summer.

Stokes says this is not only great news for U.S. cattlemen, but for Korean consumers as well.

Korea currently accepts only boneless cuts of beef from cattle less than 30 months of age. But NCBA continues to work with U.S. and Korean officials to expand access to a wider range of products, including bone-in cuts and beef from older cattle. Stokes said this is critical, if the pending free trade agreement between the two nations is to gain Congressional approval.
