BEEF PRODUCERS OFFER INFORMATION TO NUTRITION AND HEALTH EDUCATORS VIA NEW WEB SITE

CHICAGO (October 21, 1998) – A new checkoff-funded web site is helping nutrition and health educators obtain nutrition and science information related to beef. The site, www.beefnutrition.org, was developed by a team of registered dietitians and contains a wealth of information for health professionals and media to use when communicating to consumers.

The new nutrition Web site was launched to coincide with The American Dietetic Association’s Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 19-22. Information featured in the site includes:

  • Nutrition releases and statements
  • Beef industry partnership opportunities
  • Frequently asked questions about beef and nutrition
  • Recipes and new beef product information
  • Reproducible materials for client counseling
  • Nutrition research abstracts and data
  • Available brochures, publications and additional resources

"Nutrition educators have special needs and interests, so a Web site dedicated to them makes lots of sense," according to Dave Bateman, a beef producer from Elburn, Ill., and chairman of the beef industry’s Nutrition and Health Committee. "By putting this information in their language and tailoring it specifically for them, we increase chances that it will be read, believed and utilized."

The nutrition Web site is funded through the national beef checkoff, which is administered by the Beef Board. This 111-member board, made up of checkoff-paying volunteers, is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to oversee the collection of the $1-per-head checkoff, certify state beef councils, implement the provisions of the federal order establishing the checkoff and evaluate the effectiveness of checkoff programs.

Coordination of the site is conducted by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), the marketing organization and trade association for America’s one million cattle ranchers and farmers. With offices in Denver, Chicago and Washington, D.C., NCBA is a consumer-focused, producer-directed organization representing the largest segment of the nation’s food and fiber industry.
