Beef Board Appoints New Operating, Executive Committees

DENVER (Feb. 12, 2002) – The Cattlemen’s Beef Board seated 15 new board members and elected representatives for its 2002 Executive Committee and Beef Promotion Operating Committee during its annual meeting in Denver Feb. 6-9, 2002.

After being appointed by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture in November 2001, a total of 38 board members were seated for service on the CBB in 2002 – including 23 reappointments of existing members to a second term and appointment of 15 new members. New members seated and the states they represent include: S. Wayne Thames, Alabama; David Albers, California; Michael Thoren, Colorado; Carl Crabtree, Idaho; Nancy Pellett, Iowa; Douglas Dickmann, Minnesota; A. Loretta Broderick, Missouri; Carol Mosher, Montana; Michael Brooks, Oklahoma; Peggy Biaggi, Oregon; Robert Thomson, Jr., Pennsylvania; Jay O’Brien, Texas; Charles Sherron, Texas; William Ehrke, Wisconsin; and Matthew Wineinger, an importer.

Based on recommendations from the Joint Beef Industry Nominating Committee, the CBB elected the following members to its 2002 Executive Committee: CBB Vice Chairman Andy Tucker of Florida, who will serve as chairman of the Executive Committee; and members Dee Lacey (CBB chairman) of California; Nelson Curry (CBB secretary/treasurer) of Kentucky; Dave Bateman of Illinois; Laurie Bryant, an importer; Joan Harder of Washington; David McCracken of Nebraska; Pat McDowell of Texas; Kay Richardson of Florida; John Roberts of Vermont; and Gary Sharp of South Dakota. The Beef Board’s Executive Committee acts on behalf of the CBB between meetings of the full body.

CBB members appointed to the 2002 Beef Promotion Operating Committee are: Chairman Dee Lacey of California; Vice Chairman Andy Tucker of Florida; Secretary/Treasurer Nelson Curry of Kentucky; Tracy Brunner of Kansas; Jim Little of Idaho; Jay O’Brien of Texas; Bill Scheitler of Iowa; Linda Joy Stovall of Texas; Alan Svajgr of Nebraska; and Perry Teeter of North Carolina. The Operating Committee decides which programs will be funded at the national level, coordinates state and national checkoff programs, and approves contracts with industry-government organizations to carry out approved programs, as provided by law.
