Beef Checkoff-Funded Features Among Most Popular with Editors
For the sixth year in a row, editorial pages produced through the Beef Checkoff program last year combined to place in the Family Features top feature list. The editorial pages “Delicious Traditions” and “Goblin Goodies” generated a combined newspaper circulation of 20,203,687.
Funded by beef producers through their $1-per-head checkoff, the pages are coordinated for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and state beef councils by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). NCBA serves as one of the Beef Board's contractors for checkoff-funded programs.
Each editorial page highlighted beef recipes for holidays. “Delicious Traditions” showcased a traditional Christmas meal with a garlic-crusted rib roast and a Hanukkah celebration with a ginger beef brisket. Ground beef and Spooky Sloppy Joes were one of the focal points in “Goblin Goodies.” The beef industry partnered with Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk to create several recipes for that four-color page.
Family Features are high impact, full-page color editorial features that showcase recipes and tips from America’s favorite food and beverage companies, associations and their agencies. These themed features are used by print and online editors on the front page of their food and lifestyle sections, and are read by millions of shoppers every week.
Newspapers in every region of the U.S. ordered the features. The features ran in such papers as the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, the Syracuse N.Y. Post-Standard and the St. Petersburg Fla. Times.
