CATTLEMEN AND WOMEN WILL ‘HIT THE BOOKS’ AT 1998 CATTLE INDUSTRY CONVENTION

DENVER (January 13, 1998) There is a lesson or two to be learned at the 1998 Cattle Industry Centennial Convention and Trade Show, Feb. 4-7, in Denver. More than 8,000 cattlemen and women will have an opportunity to "go back to school" and improve their competitive position by attending Cattlemen’s College, a series of progressive educational seminars held at the Colorado Convention Center.

Cattlemen’s College serves as a platform to disseminate new research, provide hands-on training, and furnish participants with information they can utilize in their businesses. Sixteen seminars will be held on topics such as: cutting costs and adding value to your operation through the use of genetics, retained ownership and forage and feed management; understanding grid marketing; beef industry alliances; new beef products and their impact on the producer; and ensuring a safe and wholesome beef supply from ranch to kitchen. Other course topics will be offered in the areas of business management, cattle marketing, product marketing, quality assurance and animal health.

Retired United Airlines Captain Al Haynes will inspire Cattlemen’s College "students" during a luncheon on Feb. 4, which is free to registered participants. Captain Haynes will speak about how luck, communications, preparation, execution and cooperation attributed to the survival of 184 passengers in the crash of United Airlines Flight 232 on July 19, 1989.

Initiated in 1898, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is the national marketing organization and trade association for America’s one million cattle farmers, ranchers and feeders. With offices in Denver, Chicago and Washington, D.C., NCBA is a consumer-focused, producer-directed association representing the largest segment of the nation’s food and fiber industry.
