Cattlemen’s Beef Board Hires Communications Manager

Diane Henderson, a graduate of the University of Colorado with extensive experience in publications and communications arenas, has been hired to serve as Communications Manager for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB). With a history of newspaper and magazine coverage of cattlemen’s and government issues in Colorado and Wyoming, as well as consumer industry analysis for Standard & Poor’s under her belt, Diane will work to develop a CBB communications program aimed at achieving greater awareness of the Beef Checkoff Program and its mission to expand consumer demand for beef.

A native of Colorado, Diane spent 11 years in publications businesses in Jackson Hole, Wyoming before returning to Colorado in early 1999. She served as managing editor of the Jackson Hole Guide; editor for Homestead Publishing, a trade-book publisher based in Wyoming; special-sections editor for the Jackson Hole News; managing editor of Jackson Hole Magazine; and Senior Industry Specialist for Standard & Poor’s, before joining the Beef Board.

Diane has extensive experience covering government and cattlemen’s issues, including reporting stints at both Colorado and Wyoming legislatures. Diane also was on the front line covering cattlemen’s issues during the extensive debate over wolf reintroduction to Yellowstone National Park and the post-reintroduction fervor, and followed various public-lands/cattle issues, including grazing rights and property and estate taxes. She has earned various state and national awards for both investigative and feature writing and won a significant contract for Standard & Poor’s for preparation of an in-depth report about Swiss retailing issues and trends.

In her new position with the Beef Board, Diane will serve as a staff resource to CBB members, elected Beef Board officers, state cattle associations and other industry organizations, media representatives, producers and importers. In addition, she will act as a liaison with organizations that contract to provide communications on the Beef Board’s behalf, including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

The Cattlemen’s Beef Board is a 110-member board appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to administer the national beef checkoff. It oversees collection of the $1-per-head checkoff, certifies state beef councils, implements the provisions of the federal Order establishing the checkoff and evaluates the effectiveness of checkoff programs.
