Dec. 1, 2003 - Cattlemen Have Opportunity to Educate Food Editors
Cattlemen had a first-hand chance to educate food editors about what they do and the product they help bring to the public at the International Food Editors Conference in Denver last month. Kenny Rogers, a beef producer from Yuma, Colorado, was one of the producers invited to spend time with this audience. He says he has high hopes for the industry’s participation in the event.
Cut #1 :14 Outcue: "...really hope it helps."
According to Rogers, the beef checkoff-funded tour of cattle operations during the event is only one piece of the puzzle that increases knowledge about beef.
Cut #2 :18 Outcue: "...pay for advertising."
Rogers says he also wanted to make sure editors understood how important our ranching heritage is to the national landscape.
Cut #3 :25 Outcue: "...we’ve had now, though."
The mandatory $1-per-head beef checkoff is administered by the Beef Board, subject to USDA approval. The checkoff Act and Order, part of the 1985 Farm Bill, was approved by 79 percent of producers in a 1988 referendum.
