Dec. 8, 2004 Beef Prod. Optimistic High Court Will Uphold Checkoff: Sharp

The US Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on an appeal of a lower court ruling that found the Beef Checkoff Program unconstitutional. Gary Sharp, a beef producer from Bath, SD attended the oral arguments, and remains optimistic that the checkoff will be upheld.

Also a member of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and a formal intervener in the case, Sharp noted the importance of the checkoff in promoting and driving beef demand.

Sharp also cited research and product development as key activities that could be jeopardized if the beef checkoff is overturned.
