NCBA President Jim McAdams of Adkins, Texas was all smiles upon Monday’s announcement that Japan had lifted its two-year-long ban on U.S. beef.

Cut #1         :14          Outcue: "...demand for U.S. beef."

McAdams says the process was frustrating, and only beef from cattle 20 months and younger will be accepted for the time being. But he’s optimistic the U.S. can completely normalize beef trade with Japan in due time.

Cut #2         :30          Outcue: "...upon international guidelines."

NCBA and its state affiliates will now be working to help cattlemen age-verify their cattle so they will qualify for export to Japan.

Cut #3         :26          Outcue: "...and feedlot programs."

He said cattle producers know the importance of meeting these requirements, and many are anxious to comply.

Cut #4         :32          Outcue: "...showing an interest."

Japan’s requirements highlight the need for an effective national animal ID program, and NCBA members want to see the industry step up with a solution.

Cut #5         :22          Outcue: "...there’s real opportunities."

McAdams said that while some see determined to block or delay a national ID program, cattlemen need to come together and get this important tool up and working.

Cut #6         :30          Outcue: "...we’re meeting obstacles."

NCBA... working to increase profit opportunities for cattle and beef producers by enhancing the business climate and building consumer demand.
