Fri., Jun 28 02 - Beef Summer Grilling Program Kicks Into High Gear

Suggested Lead:

An extensive $2 million promotion program to sell more beef this summer just got 40 percent bigger with an increase approved by the Beef Promotion Operating Committee. According to Bernie Thon (rhymes with “on”), manager of retail promotions for NCBA, the boost in the Beef Summer Grilling Program is intended to make a good program even better, and help relieve beef supply pressures.

Thon says retailers have received the beef promotion program enthusiastically, and now the granddaddy of them all has climbed onboard.

Cut #2        :24            Outcue: "...which is great news."

According to Thon, beef producers on the Operating Committee recognized the need for immediate action this summer to help move beef through the retail channel.

Cut #3        :16            Outcue: "...to grill more often."

Thon says extraordinary participation by state beef councils has greatly extended the reach of the promotion.

Cut #4        :10            Outcue: "...across the country."

The Beef Summer Grilling Promotion, which is funded through the $1-per-head checkoff, runs through Labor Day.
