“Beef Ambassadors Gear Up for Student Day of Education: GROSETA”

The National Beef Ambassadors Program is an effort funded by the beef checkoff to train young people to champion the beef industry and educate others about the attributes of beef. The group recently underwent an intense week of culinary and nutrition training with the staff of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the American National CattleWomen. Anna Groseta, a Beef Ambassador and student at the University of Arizona, explains.

One goal of the training is to develop a workshop on the benefits of beef that the Ambassadors will present to peer groups across the nation.

The workshop will debut at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference in Denver on July 28, when ANCW will present a Student Day of Education.

Groseta said the Student Day of Education also offers a great opportunity for students to network with industry professionals and help plan their careers. Students that want to learn more can call ANCW at 303-694-0313.

The national Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, a group of 108 beef producers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.  They represent producers from coast-to-coast and volunteer their time to help identify programs that can help increase beef demand.  The checkoff was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle and a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.

 

American National CattleWomen, Inc., a trade association of America's affiliated CattleWomen, with the primary focus of promotion and consumer education regarding beef as a safe and nutritious food, and the production of beef cattle as an industry.
