Suggested Lead: U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Philip M. Seng is in Taiwan this week to help celebrate the return of U.S. beef. In a teleconference from Taiwan on Thursday, Seng talked about the return of U.S. beef, export conditions, market forecasts and promotion plans.

Seng outlined the terms of the Taiwan market reopening.

Seng complimented and thanked the Republic of China, and all who helped facilitate the market reopening.

Seng talked about the surge in demand of U.S. beef in Taiwan, identifying the most popular cuts.

Seng visited Costco, where shoppers were greeted with a huge banner outside the store welcoming back U.S. beef. Its initial two metric tons of U.S. beef shipments, placed on store shelves Monday April 25, were snapped up by shoppers in a few hours.

 

Cut #5 :28 – Outcue: “other major hypermarts.”

 

The national Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.  They represent producers from coast-to-coast and volunteer their time to help identify programs that can help increase beef demand.  The checkoff was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
