Suggested Lead: U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Philip M. Seng is in Taiwan this week to help celebrate the return of U.S. beef. In a teleconference from Taiwan on Thursday, Seng talked about the return of U.S. beef to some well-known foodservice establishments.

 

Cut #1 :25 – Outcue: “have the product back.”

 

Seng also spoke about upcoming promotions and marketing events.

 

Cut #2 :23 – Outcue: “displaying at that point in time.”

 

Seng projected strong exports to Taiwan for the rest of 2005, but said the U.S. also sorely needs to get bone-in product back into the market.

 

Cut #3 :27 – Outcue: “rightful levels were.”

    

Seng said competition is stiff in the Taiwanese market.

 

Cut #4 :21 – Outcue: “once we get back in here.”

 

He added that introducing new cuts and concepts to the market is also critical for growth.

The national Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.  They represent producers from coast-to-coast and volunteer their time to help identify programs that can help increase beef demand.  The checkoff was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
