NCBA TO HOST INTERNATIONAL TRADE SUMMIT

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 8, 1998) – The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) will host an October 19 International Trade Summit in Denver for cattle industry and government representatives from the United States and Canada, NCBA said today.

"This is a much needed summit, and our aim is to work toward some real solutions to the international trade issues we are facing today," said NCBA President Clark Willingham, a cattle producer from Dallas, Texas.

"There has been a lot of discussion recently about the impact of international trade on the beef industry. NCBA policy supports free trade, but it also must be fair trade," he said.

The representatives will discuss current marketing and trade problems between the two nations and explore possible solutions to those issues.

U.S. border-state cattle associations and their Canadian counterparts, representatives from state secretaries of agriculture with their Canadian counterparts, and U.S. and Canadian federal government officials are expected to attend.
