NEW COOKBOOK SHOWCASES AMERICA'S BEEF FAVORITES

DENVER (August 6, 1998) - A new contemporary cookbook that showcases America’s beef favorites is giving consumers even more reasons to enjoy beef. Produced by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) in cooperation with Time Life Books, America’s Favorite Beef Recipes provides delicious recipes and helpful hints that can make beef cooking and eating easier and more enjoyable.

According to Marlys Bielunski, director of food communications for NCBA, the checkoff-funded cookbook highlights both contemporary and classic beef favorites. "Beef is favored for its great taste, satisfying our need for bold, flavorful food," said Bielunski. "America’s Favorite Beef Recipes builds on those strengths and demonstrates that beef is also easy to prepare and extremely versatile."

Each of the cookbook recipes is "Triple Tested" by food professionals in the NCBA Culinary Center, one of America’s most respected recipe development and testing facilities. These tests help assure consumers that the recipes are "foolproof" and can be depended on to be delicious and perform as described.

Most recipes are prepared with eight ingredients or less, and more than half can be on the table in less than 30 minutes. All are made with ingredients easily found in the supermarket.

Six chapters in the cookbook cover almost every possible dining occasion, from easy family meals to dinners for company. They include Kitchen Express, with recipes that can be prepared in 20 minutes or less; Easy Family Meals, featuring convenient and easy beef meals that appeal to time-pressed consumers; Sunday Suppers, with contemporary yet old-fashioned meals; Cook Once, Dine Twice, which gives busy cooks twice the meals from a single basic recipe; Company’s Coming, perfect for guests of all types; and Hot Off the Grill, pairing beef and the grill with marinades, rubs and stuffings that will thrill the backyard chef.

In addition to more than six dozen recipes with accompanying color photographs, the cookbook features tips on purchasing, cooking and storage, as well as information on nutrition, labeling, inspection and grading. To make it convenient for use in the kitchen, the hard-bound book is spiral-bound to allow each page to lay flat.

Copies of America’s Favorite Beef Recipes are available for $7.95 plus shipping by calling 1-800-368-3138 (item #07-112). Prices for larger quantities are available.

America’s Favorite Beef Recipes supports U.S. beef marketing programs and is funded by the national beef checkoff, administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. This 111-member board is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to oversee the collection of the $1-per-head checkoff, certify state beef councils, implement the provisions of the Federal Order establishing the checkoff and evaluate the effectiveness of checkoff programs.

Initiated in 1898, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association is the marketing organization and trade association for America’s one million cattle farmers and ranchers. With offices in Denver, Chicago and Washington, D.C., NCBA is a consumer-focused, producer-directed organization representing the largest segment of the nation’s food and fiber industry.
