National Beef Ambassadors Develop Peer Nutrition Workshop
DENVER (June 30, 2005) - “A healthy diet should include naturally nutrient rich foods.” This is just one of the key messages the beef industry’s top youth leaders want to get across to their peers. National Beef Ambassadors Anna Groseta of Arizona, Kayce Clark of Texas, Laura Nelson of Wyoming, Cassie Bacon of Arkansas and Dallice Wood of California recently spent a week of education with staff from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). In Denver, they received extensive training in nutrition and nutrition messaging, as well as workshop development. At the Culinary Center in Chicago, the ambassadors learned how recipes are developed and tested. In conjunction with culinary staff, they developed and demonstrated an easy to prepare, nutritionally wholesome beef recipe to share with their peers.
The workshop, designed to give a complete nutrition message to youth and young adults, will debut at the “Student Day of Education” at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference on July 28 in Denver. “Beef Fed, Beef Fit, Beef Fantastic” - which includes a recipe demonstration - will also be presented at national youth conferences throughout the fall. If you are interested in having the National Beef Ambassador team present this nutrition workshop in your area, please contact Project Manager Carol Abrahamzon of the American National CattleWomen (ANCW) at 507-724-3905.
This youth education project was made possible by a generous grant from Shared SolutionsSM Agricultural Initiative of the Altria family of companies. The program is funded in part by America’s beef producers through the Beef Checkoff Program and is administered by ANCW on behalf of the Beef Board.

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
