North Dakota Joins Effort
The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) is coordinating relief for cattle producers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The NDSA is working with the National Cattlemen’s Foundation (NCF) and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture to get cash and supplies to its counterparts coping with the aftermath of the country’s greatest natural disaster. Those wishing to donate cash can send contributions to:
NDSA
407 S. Second St.
Bismarck, ND 58504.
Checks should be written to the NCF with “Hurricane Katrina” written in the memo. The money will be forwarded to the NCF and then to the Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Cattlemen’s Associations for distribution to cattle producers most in need in their respective states.
Those wishing to donate supplies can call the NDSA at 701-223-2522 or e-mail ndsa@ndstockmen.org with details of their donation. The NDSA will work with the Department of Agriculture and a coalition of other state agricultural trade and commodity groups to arrange the delivery of the goods.
“North Dakota beef producers want to do their part to help rebuild the cattle industry in the South,” said NDSA Communications Director Julie Schaff Ellingson. “As victims of their own share of natural disasters over the years, North Dakota cattlemen and women are reminiscent of the strong support they received from across the country, like through the One Good Cow Program, to survive such trials as the April 1997 blizzard. They want to return the favor,” she said.
