Nov. 10, 03 - Animal ID Meeting Brings Cattle Industry Groups Together
Suggested Lead:
A bottom-up, industry-controlled animal identification system will work much better than one that’s dictated by the federal government. That’s the concept behind a new industry effort discussed last week in the offices of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. Jan Lyons, a beef producer from Manhattan, Kansas, and NCBA president-elect, says the reason it should be a grassroots effort is obvious.
Cut #1 :21 Outcue: "...needs to occur here."
According to Lyons, we can look North of the border to see what might be accomplished.
Cut #2 :21 Outcue: "...that very quickly."
The speed of the system is critical.
Cut #3 :18 Outcue: "...from region to region."
Lyons says there is only one reason her organization would get involved.
Cut #4 :23 Outcue: "...is an industry issue."
Lyons says only by working through their livestock organizations will producers have maximum input into how an animal identification program is implemented.
