Nov. 23, 2004 - BSE Testing Procedures Ensure that U.S. Beef is Safe: Lyons
The U.S. beef industry is pleased with the final, conclusive test results involving an animal previously suspected of having bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), according to Jan Lyons, a Kansas cattle producer serving as President of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.

Lyons noted that multiple safeguards are in place to accurately test for BSE, and to protect all consumers by keeping any suspected animals out of the food and feed supply.

In addition to a high level of consumer safety, Lyons also noted that beef producers can be confident that their herds are protected from BSE, and that they are producing a healthy and safe product.
