Nov. 24, '03 Policy-Makers Hit Country in ’Walk-A-Mile in My Boots’ Program
Suggested Lead:
People who sit at their desks and make decisions that will affect cattlemen are getting a chance to see how their decisions might play out in a new joint program between the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The program, called “Walk a Mile in My Boots,” is letting people on the land and those behind desks trade places for a few days. Craig Utter, a beef producer from the Sandhills of Nebraska, was in Washington, D.C. last week to see what’s done there. He says he found a lot of common ground.
Cut #1 :20 Outcue: "...a healthy environment."
According to Utter, not everything believed about the other side is true.
Cut #2 :19 Outcue: "...to change, as well."
When the government comes to his property, Utter has an agenda.
Cut #3 :22 Outcue: "...being good stewards."
There will be more to the visit, of course.
Cut #4 :14 Outcue: "...up-to-date with everything."
Utter doesn’t think this program will end anytime soon.
Cut #5 :10 Outcue: "...just in its infancy."
Utter visited the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with fellow Nebraska cattleman Mike Kelly, who was this year’s winner of the NCBA Environmental Stewardship Award.
