Nov. 7, 2003 - Animal ID Meeting Brings Cattle Industry Groups Together

Suggested Lead:

Cattle industry groups from all over the country met in the offices of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association this week to discuss options for a possible industry animal identification program.  Jan Lyons, a beef producer from Manhattan, Kansas, is NCBA president-elect.  She says the meeting was the continuation of other efforts.

Lyons says protection of the U.S. animal herd is paramount.

Cut #2    :11       Outcue: "...in the country."

According to Lyons, it’s critical that the industry address this issue now.

Cut #3    :26       Outcue: "...for our industry."

Lyons believes the program should not be oppressive.

Cut #4    :11       Outcue: "...animal health perspective."

Different states and regions will have different needs, Lyons says.  But there will still be a need to bring all of the needs together in a single national plan.
