“Senate Farm Bill Taking Shape – Markup Expected Next Week: WOODALL”
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, released additional details this week about the committee’s work on the 2007 Farm Bill.
Colin Woodall, NCBA’s executive director of legislative affairs, says the new information is encouraging, because time is growing short for passage of a new Farm Bill.
Cut #1 :34 Outcue: “... just as quick as possible.”
Woodall says Agriculture Committee members and staff are still ironing out details, but he hopes to see a committee mark-up of the bill on or about October 24.
Cut #2 :28 Outcue: "… that we’ve seen yet."
One likely aspect of Senate Farm Bill will be new restrictions on the marketing and ownership of cattle – which are not included in the House version. Woodall says these measures represent unnecessary government interference in the cattle business.
Cut #3 :27 Outcue: “…find ways to defeat that.”
