Recipe Brochure Encourages Kids to “Beef It Up”

A beef checkoff-funded brochure developed especially for kids 8-12 has put more fun and nutrition into recipes for the next generation.  “Beef It Up!” was developed for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board by the Education Department of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), and is currently being distributed by NCBA and state beef councils.

Four recipes are included in the brochure, each developed by the NCBA Culinary Center with the help of young girls from the Chicago area.  These recipes utilize easy-to-use, fully-cooked ground beef crumbles, frozen meatballs or thinly-sliced deli roast beef.  Food safety instructions and chef’s tips are provided with each recipe.

The 12-page full-color brochure also has ideas for using the recipes for fun gatherings with schoolmates and friends, and extra tips for staying fit and healthy.  The importance of beef in providing ZIP (zinc, iron and protein) is also stressed.

Fourteen state beef councils have customized the brochure for distribution in their states.  Other councils are also distributing the material.

For a copy of the brochure, contact your state beef council.
