SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CENTER FOR GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

 

 

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

                      (based in Washington, D.C. office)

 

 

General Responsibilities:

 

This senior level leadership position is responsible for enhancing the Beef Industry’s business climate by strategically advocating public policy established by the membership; ensuring NCBA has a strong, credible presence in Washington, D.C. effectively managing the NCBA’s Government Affairs team, and fostering a collaborative working relationship with NCBA members, state organizations, industry partners  and staff.

 

 

Specific Responsibilities: 

·         Advocate NCBA member developed policy with executive and legislative branches of government

·         Manage association’s legislative and regulatory functions

·         Mobilize ‘grassroots’ on legislative issues

·         Oversee/advise Political Action Committee and Political Education Committee activities

·         Recognize, manage and nurture the relationship between NCBA and the Public Lands Council.  This includes working with the PLC Executive Director and PLC volunteer leadership.

·         Recognize the importance to communicate and relate to NCBA members

·         Serve as a spokesperson for NCBA

·         Engage state affiliates on government affairs activities

·         Provide communication on government affairs to NCBA’s leadership

·         Exhibit fiscal responsibility and stay within the Government Affairs budget

·         Serve as strategic counsel to the Chief Executive Officer

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Must have demonstrated strong leadership traits e.g. leading by example, holding self and others accountable and facilitating effective teams across an organization. Must have strong people management, coaching and development skills with demonstrated ability to recruit and retain talented and self motivated individuals who want to be a part of a successful team.  Must have collaborative mindset with10+ successful years in working in government affairs at a state and/or national level including the demonstrated ability to secure public policy wins, operate strategically and build coalitions.  Agricultural background and experience in Washington, D.C. are strongly preferred.  A bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in political science, economics, law, business, agriculture or related field is required.
