Jim McAdams, a Texas cattle producer and NCBA President, testified today before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, telling committee members that the U.S. beef industry is suffering as a result of the unfair ban on U.S. beef by Japan and other key export markets.

Cut #1          :26          Outcue: "...for U.S. beef."

McAdams said prior to the discovery of a case of BSE in December 2003, the United States had proven itself to be a successful exporter of beef.

Cut #2          :21          Outcue: "...was 2.2 billion dollars."

McAdams said U.S. cattlemen have been patient with Japan, but their patience is wearing thin.

Cut #3          :24           Outcue: "...beef to Japan.”

He added that the situation has broad implications, and that the United States cannot continue to accept unfair trade practices imposed by other nations.
