Statement by NCBA Regarding Sweeping Legislation on Agroterrorism

“The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) applauds efforts by U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) to develop legislation that would strike agroterrorism.

"Senator Roberts recognizes the very real threat posed by actions against agriculture. 'Our nation's food supply is at very high risk,' he said. 'We must move quickly to prevent attacks on grain and livestock production and we must begin a massive research effort to develop vaccines and antidotes to halt diseases that could wipe out our food supply in the future.'

"NCBA commends Senator Roberts for his actions to support agriculture and also his efforts to gain input from the industry. Representatives of agricultural industry will join Senator Roberts at a meeting of commodity groups at noon (EST) on Friday, Oct. 12 in Washington, D.C. to discuss his initiatives."
