Statement by NCBA Regarding the Defeat of the Kind, Boehlert, Gilchrist, Dingell Amendment to the Fa

“The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for defeating an amendment to the Farm Security Act 2001 that would have prevented farmers and ranchers from participating in conservation programs to enhance and protect natural resources.

“This amendment’s defeat was a key vote for NCBA and its members. This effort would not have been possible without close, coordinated actions by our state affiliates and members nationwide. This amendment was a direct assault on efforts by the cattle industry to achieve a conservation title that would benefit working farms and ranches.

“This defeat further ensures that the final Conservation Title of the farm bill will make available the funds to farmers and ranchers in their efforts to comply with environmental regulatory requirements.

“NCBA will continue its work on the final bill to ensure that it is fair and equitable to all producers, and provides the tools needed to ensure a safe and affordable food supply to consumers at home and abroad.”
