Thurs., Jul 04 02 - Checkoff Helps Fund Breakthrough In E. Coli Prevention

The $1-per-head checkoff has helped fund a scientific breakthrough in the prevention of the E. Coli pathogen in beef cattle. According to Bo Reagan, executive director of Research and Technical Services for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, the innovation will result in the safest levels yet of U.S. beef.

Reagan says NCBA partnered with the Texas Beef Council, Texas Tech University, Excel Corporation, Acadian Agritech, San Antonio Livestock Exposition and others to develop the new technology.

According to Reagan, the combined effect of Tasco with existing interventions such as HACCP (HA-sip) gets the beef industry closer to its goal of pathogen elimination in the beef chain.

Beef industry research and development efforts are funded by beef producers through their $1-per-head checkoff and are coordinated for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board by the NCBA.
