Thurs., Nov. 21 02 -- New Program to Reach 4th and 5th Grade Students

Suggested Lead:

A new beef checkoff-funded education kit is reaching fourth and fifth grade students with solid nutrition and beef recipe information.  “Celebrate America” is designed to be used in social studies classes, but incorporates many different disciplines in getting the industry’s messages across. Gary Sharp is a dairy producer and stocker operator from Bath, South Dakota, and chairman of the Joint Youth Education and Information Subcommittee.  He says the program is being well-received by educators.

Cut #1    :20       Outcue: "...of primarily beef."

Sharp says not all of the industry’s messages need to go through nutrition classes – that some can be like “Celebrate America” and go through social studies classes.

Cut #2    :27       Outcue: "...for a healthier life."

According to Sharp, who represents beef and dairy producers on the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, many commodity groups are very involved in reaching America’s youth with a positive nutrition message.

Cut #3    :26       Outcue: "...of human beings."

Sharp says his committee is like others working for the checkoff in carefully targeting the funds in a logical, efficient way.

Cut #4    :13       Outcue: "...get anything done."

Gary Sharp is also on the Beef Board Executive Committee.
