Thurs., Nov. 7 02 - Cattlemen Need To Help Educate Suburban Voters

Suggested Lead:

Beef producers will more and more need to help educate suburban voters on agricultural issues, according to Chandler Keys, vice president of Policy for NCBA. Keys says suburbanites carry considerable weight in U.S. elections, yet are generally uniformed on issues that affect cattlemen.

Cut #1             :30                   Outcue: "...with suburban voters."

According to Keys, suburban dwellers are generally disconnected from food and natural resource production and need to know more about how it is produced.

Cut #2             :23                   Outcue: "...put it on the ballot."

Keys says it is up to people in agriculture to make sure suburbanites understand ag issues.

Cut #3             :31                   Outcue: "...these issues, and educate."

Keys says he expects these demographics to increasingly affect elections, and that the sooner country dwellers work to make themselves understood, the better off they will be.
