Tues., Jan. 07 03 - Involvement by Cattlemen Can Boost Beef Industry

Suggested Lead:

Beef producers can strengthen their industry by getting involved in local, state or national cattle and beef organizations, says Terry Stokes. Stokes is chief executive officer of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association. He says the health and vitality of the beef industry depends upon the willingness of cattlemen to become involved in industry associations, including NCBA.

Cut #1       :12            Outcue: "...voice in Washington, D.C."

According to Stokes, personal involvement by beef producers also helps the general populace understand where food comes from.

Cut #2       :21            Outcue: "...speak with one voice."

Stokes says unity is needed in the industry to defend producers from activist groups intent on putting them out of business.

Cut #3       :12            Outcue: "...ranchers off the land."

According to Stokes, the membership of young beef producers is especially important.

Cut #4       :22            Outcue: "...become a part of it."

Stokes says beef producers are urged to call their local or state cattle organizations to get involved, or call NCBA at 303-694-0305.
