Tues., Sep 03 02 - Cattlemen Urged To Participate In Checkoff Decisions

Suggested Lead:

The most productive action beef producers can take to influence the direction of their industry and their checkoff program is to get involved in the process, according to Lee Hall. Hall, a beef producer from Lexington, Kentucky, is chairman of the Joint New Product & Culinary Initiatives Committee. He says beef producers unhappy with checkoff programs should first get plugged in.

Cut #1        :16            Outcue: "...voice their concerns."

Hall says input from cattlemen is needed in fair weather and foul.

Cut #2        :28            Outcue: "...doing a little differently."

According to Hall, beef industry organizations and the checkoff program itself are shaped by participating cattlemen.

Cut #3        :14            Outcue: "...about their industry."

Hall says there is plenty of room at the table for beef producers who want to contribute ideas about the checkoff program.

Cut #4        :21            Outcue: "...participate in that way."

The national beef checkoff is managed by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, which is made up of volunteers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.
