Veal Packers Join Industry Effort to Help Increase Veal Demand
Two veal packers have added their investments to those of veal producers and other veal packers in industry-wide promotion, research and information programs. This brings to nine the number of veal packers who are voluntarily investing 25 cents per head into demand-building programs conducted by the Beef Checkoff Program.
Through the $1-per-head beef checkoff, veal producers create these programs, administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and state beef councils, with oversight by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Nagle Veal of San Bernadino, Calif., and Advance Food Company of Enid, Okla., presented checks at the July Cattle Industry Summer Conference to the Veal Committee, on behalf of the checkoff program, demonstrating their support. Other packers participating in the program are Brown Packing Company, David Mosner, Inc.; Swissland Veal, Strauss Veal and Lamb, Michigan Veal, Lido Veal and Pioneer Wholesale.
“We appreciate the support of all of our packer investors, and welcome Nagle Veal and Advance Food Company to the fold,” according to Betty McCullough, chairman of the Joint Veal Committee and an Ohio veal producer. “With the veal industry’s limited resources, it’s an important time to join together to increase demand for our product. This allows us to build a veal marketing budget that will succeed in our fight.”
Kevin Tolley, Nagle Veal, said that his company participates in this organization for a very important reason: “It isn’t the money per se. It’s that we, as a segment of the industry, contribute because we have common goals.”
Stephanie Rock and Rhobb Walter, Advance Food Company, said their company was looking forward to partnering with the Beef Checkoff Program to promote veal consumption. “Advance will continue to educate consumers and customers about veal,” said Walter, national product manager. “We know that targeted campaigns in upscale trade publications will emphasize nationwide availability of portion controlled veal.”
