Wed., Jul 03 02 - New Product Initiatives Benefit Producers Industry-wide

Suggested Lead:

The benefits of new product initiatives developed by the beef industry through the checkoff have a positive affect on everyone’s pocketbook up and down the supply chain, according to Kentucky beef producer Lee Hall, chairman of the Joint New Product and Culinary Initiatives Committee. But it may take longer for the benefits to reach cow-calf producers, Hall says.

Cut #1        :10            Outcue: "...through the supply chain."

Hall says because of their position in the chain, packers, processors and retailers benefit first.

Cut #2        :14            Outcue: "...so to speak."

According to Hall, profits spread throughout the supply chain, although volatile markets can hamper them.

Cut #3        :24            Outcue: "...of the entire carcass."

Hall says when markets even out, beef producers will realize more benefits from new product initiatives.

Cut #4        :30            Outcue: "...to the production level."

New product initiatives are funded through the $1-per-head checkoff, which is managed by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
