Wed., Jun 26 02 - Price Discovery Think Tank Reviews Marketing Tools

Suggested Lead:

Members of the NCBA’s Price Discovery Think Tank met this week to further review options for improved marketing opportunities for cattle producers.  The group was joined by representatives of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service and the Economic Research Service – who told the group that two new reports – national, comprehensive box-beef cutout data and a new retail price report would soon be added to the arsenal of available informational tools. According to NCBA president-elect Eric Davis, who chairs the group, this information will be important to producers.

Cut #1        :19            Outcue: "...value in the carcass."

Davis, a beef producer from Bruneau, Idaho, says the group also took action to move efforts on the futures front forward.

Cut #2        :24            Outcue: "...books for a long while."

According to Davis, packer ownership and captive supply also were topics of discussion in the meeting.

Cut #3        :24            Outcue: "...about the same thing."

Davis says broader efforts by the NCBA include looking into the entire marketing structure and how it’s affecting cattlemen.

Cut #4        :30            Outcue: "...about the same thing."

The Think Tank includes individuals who represent various aspects of the cattle industry.  It was appointed by NCBA president Wythe Willey at the organization’s annual meeting in February.
