Wed., Nov. 13 02 -- Beef Checkoff Ruling Could Influence Other Rulings

Beef Board Chief Operating Officer Monte Reese thinks the recent ruling by Montana Federal Court Judge Richard Cebull that the beef checkoff is constitutional is a positive one –- and not just for beef producers.

Cut #1    :23       Outcue: "...programs in the future."

According to Reese, the decision doesn’t close the book on checkoff challenges.

Cut #2    :15       Outcue: "...or not they’re constitutional."

Reese says the Congress passed the Checkoff Act & Order for reasons important to more than just cattlemen.

Cut #3    :18       Outcue: "...profits for cattle producers."

According to Reese, other commodity groups are keeping close tabs on what happens to the beef checkoff.

Cut #4    :23       Outcue: "...to go forward with."

Cattle producers continue to stand behind the beef checkoff, with independent studies indicating a better than 60 percent support rate.
