Wythe Willey Statement on Merger of ADM and Minnesota Corn Processors

“The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association leadership and members are very concerned about the continued consolidation of companies that have a direct impact on our nation’s agricultural industries.

“The merger of Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (ADM) with Minnesota Corn Processors, LLC (MCP) will bring about significant changes in the corn gluten market such as raising feed costs, at a time when cattle ranchers are already facing so much adversity.

“ADM is the number one producer of corn gluten, and MCP is the third largest domestic producer.  This merger creates a virtual monopoly in the corn gluten market.

“It is NCBA policy to carefully monitor all mergers and acquisitions in the agribusiness arena to ensure the livelihood of America’s cattlemen.  We hope Congress and the Justice department will review and halt any business practices deemed anti-competitive and detrimental to businesses in the agriculture sector.
