Ag & Food Policy
2013 Farm Bill
Cattle producers support a reduction of the federal deficit while assuring funding for farm bill priorities. The farm bill should minimize direct federal involvement in agricultural production and preserve the individual’s right to manage land, water and resources.
Border Security is Important to Cattlemen
NCBA’s membership supports meaningful legislative or regulatory reform that strengthens border security. Border security is paramount to the health and welfare of the livestock industry, and NCBA supports all efforts and authority for law enforcement to secure international borders. NCBA supports adding sufficient personnel to secure the border, providing the personnel with modern technology and resources necessary to enforce security at the international boundary, and enhancing civil and governmental communications to provide full coverage throughout the border region.
Meaningful Guestworker Reform is Needed
The current H-2A Guestworker Program is a failed program that does not meet the current needs of agricultural employers who depend on the year-round availability of foreign workers. NCBA supports streamlining the H-2A Program or similar agricultural worker programs to better serve all sectors of the agricultural industry. NCBA also supports the creation of a non-seasonal, temporary worker program that ensures an adequate workforce and provides opportunities for current employees found to be in the U.S. illegally to apply for legal status.
