Beef Quality Assurance (BQA)

Summary

In 1982 USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) and the National Cattlemen’s Association (now NCBA) began working on the pre-harvest Beef Safety Production Program to eliminate violative residues from the beef supply. By the mid to late 80’s the beef industry adopted the term Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) to provide cattle producers with the tools and training necessary to assure animal health and well-being as well as provide a safe, quality product. BQA emphasizes heavily on animal care and handling as well as safe transportation standards.
