JOINT GLOBAL CONSUMER MARKETING GROUP

Virginia Coelho, Chair; J. D. Alexander, Vice Chair

The group will convene to hear program updates from the joint marketing committees: Advertising, Foodservice, Retail, Veal, and International Markets. Following the group meeting, the individual joint committees will meet to begin discussion on strategic direction for 2009.

Joint Advertising Committee

Glenda Flora, Chair; Terri Carstensen, Vice Chair

Come to hear 2008 advertising results and see new print executions and media plans for 2009 advertising. Then discuss the strategic direction that will serve as a basis for 2010 checkoff advertising.

Joint Foodservice Committee

Bill Jackson, Chair; Scott McGregor, Vice Chair

Seventy-percent of adults say that their favorite restaurant foods provide flavor and taste sensations that cannot be duplicated easily in their home kitchen, which may explain why, even in a tough economy, Americans spent more than $530-billion on meals prepared away from home in 2008. This translated to more than $26.5-billion in wholesale beef purchases by the nation’s restaurants and institutions – a total of 8.18-billion pounds. Committee members will hear from 2008 National Beef Backers who represent those businesses that understand and capitalize on the power of beef to deliver the flavor and taste that consumers crave.

Joint Retail Committee

Don Stewart, Chair; Helen Wiese, Vice Chair

Learn what the beef checkoff has accomplished with supermarket retailers this past year and what is in store for next year. The retail marketing team will be presenting the results of our 2008 marketing plans. We will also review progress on 2009 plans, which include new merchandising techniques for large subprimals and new retail partnerships.

Joint Veal Committee

Ray Krones, Chair; Jerry King, Vice Chair

Explore the Possibilities with Veal as veal industry leaders review beef checkoff-funded veal promotion programs targeting retail and foodservice through the integrated Veal Go to Market Strategy. The meeting will also include veal program updates and a review of relationships with veal marketing partners including veal packer/processors and state beef councils.

Joint International Markets Committee

Dave Hamilton, Chair; Bob McCan, Vice Chair

The significant progress made in regaining export markets emerged as a key bright spot for the industry in 2008, but there is still much work to be done. As key industry personnel work on the front lines to navigate these extreme global economic circumstances, come hear their perspective on how beef producers and our industry can successfully adapt their business models to our rapidly changing world. This committee will also receive an update on how Country-of-Origin Labeling is being implemented.

These research priorities will help to enhance the sustainability and profitability of the beef industry and your business.

Joint Beef Safety Committee

Duane Theuninck, Chair; Mark Riechers, Vice Chair

Since safety is one of the most important factors consumers site when making mealtime decisions, it’s essential to utilize beef safety research programs to enhance beef’s safety and improve consumer confidence. Take this opportunity to interact with other producers and committee leadership and discuss recently completed beef safety research, hear about the Beef Industry Food Safety Council’s upcoming Beef Industry Safety Summit, and learn about the steps taken by industry partners to improve the safety systems in place from farm to fork.   Engage in discussions focused on research priorities and outreach goals and accomplishments.

Joint Product Enhancement Committee

Providing consumers with a positive and consistent eating experience is paramount to long-term customer satisfaction and building beef demand. Human nutrition research is essential to protect and promote beef’s role in the nutrition guidance and support beef as a nutrient rich food. All are welcome to learn how nutrition science can work for beef promotion and demand.

Joint New Product & Culinary Initiatives Committee

Jennifer Houston, Chair; Neil Kayser, Vice Chair

It also gives a view into the product communication and promotion activities of the National Beef Cook-Off program which shows consumers how to enjoy and benefit from eating beef.

The committee will consider federal lands resource issues and hear from decision-makers about current issues across the west and in Washington, D.C. From legislation in Washington to litigation in the court system we are actively involved in perpetuating the continued multiple use regime of our Nation’s federal lands. All cattle ranchers are impacted by regulations placed on federal lands as they are often subsequently implemented on private land. It is our goal to have a stable business environment where our members can continue to access federal lands for ranching operations and continue their role as our Nation’s resource conservationists. Your input/ideas are integral to developing strategies for reacting to actions that affect ranching on federal lands!

NCBA Live Cattle Marketing

Your input is critical as new strategies and policies for addressing regulatory and legislative issues that continue to affect your business are developed!

We will look at the rapidly approaching expiration of the 2001 tax cuts and see how the changes in Congress and the White House will impact NCBA’s efforts on elimination of the Death Tax and other tax priorities.  We will also review the effects of the actions Congress took last fall to address the finance and credit crisis.

NCBA Membership Committee

Bill Donald, Chair; Eric Smith, Vice Chair

NCBA’s success as an organization is derived from the strength of its membership. NCBA works every day for producers on all issues impacting our way of life. To provide funding for this work we must have strong relationships with our members, state and breed affiliates. This committee is the time for these groups to come together to develop strategies for enhancing revenue development, give direction on existing services and provide input on future programs for state organizations and members.
