In 2012, the Federation of State Beef Councils outlined its accomplishments and priorities over the previous year through a special insert in the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Directions magazine, available here. The information in this insert stressed the importance of state beef councils and their national organization to the Beef Checkoff Program, and how all partners in the checkoff worked together to assure producers that their checkoff dollars were invested in an appropriate, efficient and effective manner.
As 2012 came to a close, the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB) and the Federation of State Beef Councils officially kicked off a new checkoff committee structure that better aligns Joint Advisory Committees with elements of the beef Industry Long Range Plan (LRP). Committees and subcommittees provide strategic direction on how to advance the LRP using checkoff resources.
The planning for this new structure was begun in 2011. The structure organizes committees according to strategic objectives of the LRP, encouraging wider views of checkoff work, with all program contractors and managers working together toward the same end. This avoids overlap and encourages coordination, at the same time increasing producer knowledge of broad program goals.
The first meetings of the new committee structure took place at the 2013 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show in Tampa, Florida February 6-9.
