Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board
The Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB) administers the national Beef Checkoff Program, subject to USDA approval. The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill and assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. During their 2012 summer meeting, CBB members will discuss upcoming funding challenges and prepare for approved changes in the structure of checkoff committees. In addition, checkoff committees will review and evaluate proposals for checkoff-funded promotion, education, research and information programs aimed at increasing demand for beef during the coming year, and will recommend a national checkoff budget for Fiscal Year 2013, which begins October 1, 2012.
