Recruitment Tips & Materials

As our cattle industry faces more tough issues everyday, the strength of NCBA becomes more important. That strength is found in our members- which is why recruiting is so important. NCBA wants all voices to be heard on the current industry issues, and we can only do that through our membership. As you help bring more members to the table, you are also increasing the valuable view points and discussions that help shape NCBA's policies.

Please help your association by recruiting 3 new members today!

Top 5 Ways to Become a Successful Recruiter

1. Don’t be afraid to ask!

This is the number one tip that can make you successful. If you don’t ask, you won’t know.

2. Always have materials on hand.

When talking with a potential member, having an application on hand that they can fill out right then will make you more likely to get their membership.

3. Get their contact information.

Having a phone number and address makes it easier to contact a potential member a few weeks later to see if they have any additional questions, and to encourage them again to join.

4. Use the Power of the People You Know.

Anyone that you do business with on a daily basis is a potential member. Have you asked your vet? Your neighboring producers?

5. Don’t Be Afraid of the Tough Questions.

Potential members will respect you more, and therefore be more likely to join, it you can address the tough questions they have about your state association and NCBA. We offer talking points and updates on all the tough issues through our website, eUpdates and this newsletter. If you need more information, please contact the membership department.

The Recruiters Say:

Dale Lueck, MN - “The primary tool I use is to realize that every interaction is an opportunity to talk to people directly about the work NCBA and my state association are doing. I always get their name, address and phone number to follow-up with them. I am often able to sell a membership with a follow-up phone call or brochure.”

Mike Kelly, NY- "When the conversation gets around to the discussion of issues and/or problems, I mention what NCBA is doing and has accomplished for breeders. The rest is easy. You just have to remember to ask them to join. If you don't ask, they probably won't take the initiative."

Tim Munns, UT-  “Recruiting is about connecting with someone. Being yourself and speaking from the heart about the industry and NCBA’s part in it will convince someone more than a trinket will.”
