USDA’s release of a new food guidance system is viewed as good news by the beef industry, because it is consistent with the healthy lifestyle messages advocated by the industry. Mike Cline, an Iowa cattle producer and chair of the beef industry’s Joint Nutrition and Health Committee, sees many positives in the revised Food Guide Pyramid.

Cut #1    :25       Outcue: "...at the same time."

Cline is pleased to see an emphasis on nutrient-dense foods, a category that certainly includes lean beef.

Cut #2    :18       Outcue: "...each serving of beef."

He explained that the progress made by the beef industry in developing leaner and healthier products makes it a smart selection for consumers concerned about maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

Cut #3    :25       Outcue: "...healthier diet for everyone."

The national Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.  They represent producers from coast-to-coast and volunteer their time to help identify programs that can help increase beef demand.  The checkoff was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
