Stokes Details Numbers Crunch

A changing industry represents a challenge when it comes to the organizations that stand to defend it. That was a message from Terry Stokes, CEO of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, at a session Friday at the Cattle Industry Summer Conference in Denver.

Stokes told the hundreds of cattle producers at the session that some difficulties arrive from differing business models.

Although the number of beef cows is down about 28 percent from 1975, there are bright signs for the industry.

With about 13 million fewer cows now than in 1975, cattle producers can be both proud and concerned.

Stokes said it doesn’t take long for the industry’s organizations to do the math.
