Cattlemen’s Beef Board Chief Operating Officer Monte Reese says the Supreme Court decision upholding the Beef Checkoff Program puts beef producers in greater control of their product’s destiny.

Reese said the Beef Board recognizes that some do not support the program, and says more outreach is necessary.

Cut #2    :33       Outcue: "...to a supporter."

He added that it was gratifying to see an outpouring of support for the Beef Checkoff Program, and for other self-help programs as well.

Cut #3    :23       Outcue: "...checkoff programs in general."

With the decision now behind them, Reese says the Beef Board will remain focused on building beef demand.

Cut #4    :15       Outcue: "...checkoff’s all about."

The national Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture.  They represent producers from coast-to-coast and volunteer their time to help identify programs that can help increase beef demand.  The checkoff was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
