Mon., Nov. 11 02 -- Attitudes about Beef Safety, Nutrition Improving

Suggested Lead:

Evaluating the beef checkoff means evaluating what the attitudes of consumers are toward the various aspects of beef consumption.  Safety and nutrition are two issues that consumers have said are important in their beef purchasing habits.  According to Rich Otley, director of evaluation for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, in terms of the safety, more and more consumers are confident that U.S. beef remains free of BSE.

Otley says he’s also encouraged in consumer attitudes about nutrition.

Cut #2    :18       Outcue: "...of those numbers."

According to Otley, beef is also holding its own -- or better -- against some of its competitors in the nutrition category.

Cut #3    :22       Outcue: "...they did in chicken."

Otley says the research tends to back up the contention that consumer attitudes about beef are headed in the right direction.
