Mon., Sep 30 02 - ANCW Will Play A Role In Beef Industry Girl Scout Program

The American National CattleWomen will be assisting beef councils in some states launch a checkoff-funded nutrition patch program for Junior Girl Scouts. According to Vicki Wilkinson, ANCW president from Chino (CHEE-no) Valley, Arizona, Cattlewomen members will assist in contacting troop leaders, performing food demonstrations, and whatever else state beef councils request.

Wilkinson says Junior Girl Scouts can earn a patch by completing the program, which emphasizes nutrition and the role of beef in a healthy diet.

According to Wilkinson, the beef industry’s youth program focuses on girls ages 8 to 12 who are forming their own attitudes about food and are influencing family food purchases now.

Wilkinson says through such programs, the ANCW plans to be a positive force in the beef industry for a long time to come.

The Princess Patch program is coordinated by NCBA for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, beef industry volunteers appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to oversee the $1-per-head checkoff.
