National Beef Ambassador Program

DENVER (August 11, 2004) – More than 30 students who have enthusiasm for beef will be competing for spots as industry spokespeople during the 2004 National Beef Ambassador competition in Sheridan, Wyo. Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.  These young people represent the next generation of the U.S. cattle industry.

The National Beef Ambassador Program is managed for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board by the American National CattleWomen, Inc. (ANCW), one of the Beef Board’s contractors.  It is funded by America’s beef producers through the $1-per-head Beef Checkoff Program.  The 2004 competition is being hosted by the Wyoming CattleWomen.

Since 1988 more than 400 contestants representing thirty-one states have participated in the National Beef Ambassador Program.  Each year state CattleWomen organizations send their top students to compete in the national speaking contest.  Students present compelling speeches that address beef industry myths and misperceptions, competing for cash prizes and the opportunity to become a National Beef Ambassador spokesperson, traveling the United States on behalf of the ANCW and the beef industry.

The Sheridan, Wyo., event is being held at the Holiday Inn.  It includes optional tours of local points of interest, and competition that includes speeches and interviews.  A mystery dinner theater will be offered on Friday, Oct. 1.  An awards banquet will be held on Oct. 2.
